SOLEHYPE - THE BIGGEST NAMES IN THE SNEAKER WORLD - INTERVIEW WITH Ehdie Masai Sackey @Sneakaninjaz

TH: First off can we get a little intro for the people who may not be familiar? Name, Age, Homebase and occupation?

EHDIE: My name is Ehdie Masai Sackey and sadly 32 years old. I am a Damage Controlman (Firefighter) in the United States Navy, currently stationed in Japan.

TH: Your Instagram pictures are some of the highest quality shots you will ever see. What do you use as your main setup?

EHDIE: Thank you very much. I am a Nikon guy and on Instagram I have gone through at least 3 different Nikon cameras. Nikkor or Sigma Lenses. I don't have all the crazy equipment that a lot of people use. I adjust accordingly on the old Photoshop CS5. Yes i know I need to upgrade.

TH: Being so into sneakers how has it been living in Japan compared to the states?

EHDIE: Japan changed everything for me. Growing up I could only dream of the kicks I wanted. My family wasn't the type to buy into expensive things. It wasn't until High School that I was able to get them for myself.

When I moved to Japan in 2003 it was a done deal. Kicks I hadn't seen since childhood were just sitting on the shelves waiting for me. Sadly it's not the same today since the hype has reached us, but you can still find some gems here and there.

TH: What has been your favorite release of 2013 so far?

EHDIE: Honestly the Atmos Duck Hunter and The Black Tiger Camo Air Max 90's are my all around favorites of the year. Great quality, limited and getting them for retail would make anyone happy.

TH: What would you say has been the worst release of 2013?

EHDIE: I feel it's all about preference. So just because I don't like something I wouldn't call it bad. So I cant really say any shoe this year was the "worse". If I see something I don't like, I just move on to the next.

TH: If you were a Nike executive for the day what specific shoe would you retro immediately and why?

EHDIE: That's easy. The Nike Air Barrage. As I got older, I have made a habit of buying the shoes I couldn't have then. That is the last one that I can think of that I never owned. It's a must.

TH: What has been the toughest shoe to get a hold of in your current collection and why?

EHDIE: I have a lot of patience. I figure all the shoes I want will eventually make it my way at the right time. I am not a "camper" and I havent had to go through too much trouble for any shoe, (yet).

One in particular I have been waiting a bit for is the Paris Dunk SBs... I want them but believe it or not I am not the type of guy to spend too much on ONE shoe. The wait will continue.

TH: Of all the materials used on sneakers nowadays (leather, suede, patent leather, elephant print, cement print, etc.) which one makes you have to buy a certain pair and why?

EHDIE: I just want good quality. I do not have a favorite material. I'll tell you what though. Hype or not. I am a BIG fan of the Lebron Corks. Caught me off guard. But if I had to choose good ol' fashioned leather would make me happy.

TH: Besides shoes what's your biggest guilty pleasure?

EHDIE: FOOD. Hands down.

TH: What one thing bothers or bugs you the most about the current state of the sneaker game?

EHDIE: Negativity from other so called "sneakerheads". The hate, the trash talking, the bragging, the LIES and so on.

Also the guys who act like "Fashion Divas". They always feel the need to tell you how you should wear your kicks and/or clothing with those kicks. It's sad that it's no longer cool to be yourself.

TH: What was the one shoe that sparked your interest in the sneaker game?

EHDIE: The Black Cement IIIs back in 89 I believe (wow i'm old). I was told to look after a pair for someone and all I could do was stare. Never seen anything like them. Of course no internet and so on so I had to depend on someone wearing the shoe for me to see them again.

Took over a year before I laid eyes on them for the 2nd time. That was a long year. To this day that is my favorite shoe of all time.

TH: What is your #1 influence when you pick and choose your sneaker choices?

EHDIE: How it feels on my feet. If its not comfortable then I can do without it. I actually like to wear my shoes.

TH: Any last words for the people out there?

EHDIE: Not much. I just appreciate those who follow, like and/or comment. I work pretty hard at doing some of the photos.

I mainly do it to give others a clear view of the shoe and hopefully helps them in their decision to buy or pass. Just wish people weren't so negative to each other. It's all love over here.
